First Annual Wreath Decorating Contest
The BVPF was one of the sponsors of The Village of Bellport’s First Annual Wreath Decorating Contest. Contestants were provided with pre-lit wreaths with bows. The wreaths were displayed on the lampposts in the Village throughout the month of December. Although the original plan was to have 27 wreaths available to be decorated, because of the overwhelming demand, fifty-four families were able participate in this event.
Osborn Park Landscaping and Benches
The Village has completed rebuilding the Gazebo and adding a boardwalk along the Park Dock. It also completed installing a sprinkler system. The BVPF completed its installation of new benches and picnic tables in 2016. More landscaping will be added over time as well. The park is now complete and looks amazing. This was a great example of a public-private partnership executing a large complex project over 2-3 years.
HoHum Waiting Area Umbrellas
In addition to the continuing Bite Back project and the future kitchen, BVPF completed in 2017 the installation of four new large umbrellas at the ferry waiting area at HoHum Beach. These are very attractive and provide much needed shade for passengers, crew and workers at HoHum. Because of wear and tear on these umbrellas, the BVPF has purchased new umbrellas to replace the broken ones for the 2021 season.
Bellport Bowling Alley Restoration—Grand Opening
In the Fall of 2018, the BVPF together with the Bellport Village began restoration of the antique 1929 bowling alley in the basement recreation room of the Bellport Community center. The scope of the project included:

Restoration of the bowling alley to its original 1929 working condition

Facelift of the entire space by the Village

New bowling balls and bowling shoes for use by bowlers
A Grand Opening was held on May 26, 2019 and was attended by over 100 people. It was a great time and fun for all. Anna McLure, Joan Prybazerski, and Ex-Mayor Bob Wallen threw out the first bowling balls to christen this event. Many thanks go to Hartwell Builders, Palace Lighting, Aboff’s Paints, Gold Crown Bowling, Babylon Bowl, Strikeforce Bowling, The Village Highway Dept., and Phillip Thomas Interiors for all their creativity and hard work.
Ho Hum Beach - Wagons Ho!
In the summer of 2019, the BVPF donated 6 new Radio Flyer wagons to the Village for use by residents using Ho Hum Beach. These can be used to help transport personal belongings along the boardwalk and are free of charge!
Because the wagons at Ho Hum Beach have been extremely popular, the BVPF purchased additional wagons in 2021.
Biting Back at the Bandshell
In 2019 the BVPF expanded its Bite Back mosquito spraying program to include the Village Bandshell Park. Bite Back now covers Mothers Beach, Ho Hum Beach and the Bandshell Park.

Newly Designed Bandshell Park Playground
The new signature project for 2020 was announced at our Cocktails by the Bay party. It is a partnership with the Village to re-design the Marina playground and install much needed new playground equipment. The project was completed and funded in the Spring of 2021. The new playground equipment has been met with rave reviews!
Spraying Ash Trees to Save Them
BVPF has agreed to help fund the treatment of 20 ash trees to protect/cure the trees throughout the Village from the effects of the emerald ash borer beetle. This project will be in partnership with the Bellport Garden Club.
Memorial Benches
The BVPF has helped two families purchase and install Memorial Benches at Osborn Park and Mother's Beach. Contact the BVPF if you would like more details on this program.
Clean Sweep 2014 - 2021
Every spring we engage a company to clean the beaches at Mothers Beach and the Marina Playground beach.
Then we do another fast clean in the summer. This process removes larger rocks and debris that builds up over the winter at these beaches making them cleaner and softer.

Mothers Beach Automated Gate - Summer 2022
The gate at Mothers Beach has always been a manual gate. This has resulted in it remaining closed during the Winter months due to no Village employees being available to open and close it from sunrise to sunset. The BVPF has solved this problem!
This new attractive automated gate has been installed in the Summer of 2022 thanks to 75% of the funds needed being provided by the BVPF (the Village will provide 25%).
This gate will be automatically opened and closed remotely by Village personnel during daylight hours 365 days of the year!

Mothers Beach New Playground - April 2022
Two new pieces of playground equipment and additional beach sand have just been installed at Mothers Beach. This is a major part of a new Mothers Beach upgrade and renovation project with the Village that includes additional sand, industrial removal of the imbedded sea weed mass, ongoing beach cleaning of the sea weed, relocation of the Gazebo, porta-potties, guard shack, and the Memorial Bench. All this should be completed by this Summer. This new playground equipment is funded 100% by the BVPF.

Mothers Beach – More Sand/More Sun
The BVPF purchased 300 tons of sand to be deposited at Mothers Beach. This was completed by the Village Highway Dept. on May 12, 2022! It looks awesome! The Village also improved the sightlines by relocating the gazebo eastward, is in the process of installing a new enclosure for the Porta-Potty, and also installing new fencing.

North Howells Point Road Island Renovation – December 2022
The BVPF funded the costs associated with lighting the spruce tree on North Howells Point Rd and the purchase of a bench for the circle. The Village performed most of the heavy lifting here, including installation of the new lamp post.
In the spring, a walkway was installed and a garden. Bulbs were planted and the garden will include native plants and a pollinator pathway. The BVPF is funding the planting and Jason Crane and the Highway Department will help with the walkway and mulch around the spruce and three remaining shrubs.

1000 Yards Campaign
TThe BVPF provided support to the Bellport Environment Committee to purchase supplies for producing a marketing pamphlet, banner, and signs for the 1000 Yards Campaign. The focus of this campaign was on bay-friendly lawn care, planting native trees in yards, and incorporating native plantings such as perennials, shrubs and grasses in landscaping.

Air Conditioning the Bowling Alley - late 2023
In 2019, the Village, together with the BVPF, held a grand opening of the newly renovated activity room and antique bowling alley in the basement of the Village Community Center.
It has been met with great enthusiasm from all the residents. Of course right after its use was greatly restricted by Covid and then termites. However today it remains a highly sought out area for resident enjoyment year round and the Village Kids Camp during the Summer.
One of the biggest issues that arose very early on was the lack of heat and A/C in the space. The heat issue has been resolved but the lack of A/C remains a significant issue when using the space, even in the Winter. In reaction to this, the BVPF raised funds in 2020 using the A/C of the Bowling alley space as our keystone project.
Work has been completed in late 2023 with the installation of a ducted system with two Trane 3.5 ton condensing units outside the building.
